SHARES Lecture: ‘Shared responsibility in relation to the right to food’, by Olivier de Schutter
On 14 February 2013, Professor Olivier de Schutter will give a lecture on ‘Shared responsibility in relation to the right to food’.
Olivier de Schutter is the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food and human rights expert. He is Professor of Law at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) and the College of Europe. He is a Vising Professor at Columbia University and member of the global law school faculty of the New York University. Previously, he was chair of the EU Network of Independent Experts on Fundamental Rights, a group of experts advising the institutions of the European Union on fundamental rights issues. He also advised the European Union and the Council of Europe on several occasions.
He has published in the areas of international human rights law and fundamental rights in the European Union, with a particular focus on social and economic rights and the relationship between human rights and governance. Professor De Schutter edited together with Kaitlin Y Cordes the book Accounting for Hunger: The Right to Food in the Era of Globalization, published by Hart Publishing, Oxford in 2011. He recently published the book Foreign Direct Investment and Human Development (Routledge) with Jan Wouters and Johan Swinnen, and is working on ‘Fundamental Rights in the European Union’ (OUP) (forthcoming, 2013).
